Baan Oun Rak – Part 8:
A Small Broom, A Big Lesson
Before returning home, children at Baan Oun Rak work together to clean the shelter. Some sweep, others mop, while another group set tables and chairs. During activities, there are laugh and cheerful voices such as ‘Let me help you’. A simple task has become moments of care and connection.
What matters the most is not a perfectly clean floor or neatly arranged furniture, but learning that happens along the way. Through every small action, children discover that they are valued and capable of caring for the shared space around them.
More than the housework, this daily activity is part of the healing process. It builds self-esteem, responsibility, and teamwork through hands-on experience. In these small moments, children learn to help, share, and take pride in what they can do together.
Before going back home, they are not just cleaning a house —they are building life skills, a sense of belonging, and the feeling of being accepted in a place they can truly call “home.”
