Baan Oun Rak – Part 7:

Safety Cards

Today, a caregiver invites children to sit in a circle and learn through the boardgame, Safety Ranger Game.’ They play the role of the safety rangers who practice analytical thinking and make decisions in risky situations such as - when a stranger ask them to go with him/her somewhere or when they are bullied. During the games, children reflect true feelings:

"...I'm scared, but I want to run away..." "...I'm angry...but I don't know how to say it..."

The caregiver does not only provide the correct answers, but encourage children to explore their own feelings and practice important skills also. They learn to say no, ask for help and communicate their feelings appropriately.

The classroom thus becomes a ‘Safe Space’ where children can practice analytic thinking, share true feeling and build self-confidence.

This activity is not only to teach children about safety, but to build inner strength also. Children can understand themselves, dare to speak up and dare to protect themselves in real life.

The sustainable child protection operation begins with children knowing their rights and their worth.

“Protecting children is not the responsibility of one person, but of us all.”
